Other useful information:
- Basic Disclosures can be obtained for any candidate regardless of job role (unlike Standard and Enhanced Disclosures which are job role specific)
- Basic Disclosures contain details of any convictions which are classified as being unspent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The length of time for a conviction to become spent is dependent on the sentence given and the age of the individual at the time the sentence was handed down. For a custodial sentence, the length of time actually served is irrelevant: the rehabilitation period is decided by the original sentence. Custodial sentences of more than 2½ years can never become spent and therefore would always be displayed on a basic disclosure

- To carry out a basic disclosure KYC need to receive clear copies of two documents, one that confirms your candidate's identity and another which confirms their current address. The list of acceptable documents is included with our User Guide in the downloads area of the 'My Account' section of our website
- The candidate will only receive their disclosure certificate from us on occasions where it contains convictions. Where the disclosure certificate is clear we will securely dispose of it. Our customers will see a scanned copy of the certificate in all cases
- The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) produce an online glossary of terms used in criminal record disclosures which you can view on their website - CRB Glossary of Terms
- Criminal Record disclosures produced by Disclosure Scotland or the Criminal Records Bureau only contain information about convictions in the UK. Obtaining criminal records checks overseas will often require your candidate / employee to make the request directly as few countries operate a similar system to the UK. You can view instructions regarding how to obtain criminal record checks overseas by visiting the Security Industry Authority website - Security Industry Authority Overseas Criminal Record Checks
