Enhanced Disclosure — Key Information
When should I use this check? Enhanced Disclosures are for roles that involve work in a 'Regulated Activity' and for a regulated activity provider with children or vulnerable adults. In general this type of work will involve regularly caring for, supervising, training or being in sole charge of such people on a frequent, intensive and/or overnight basis. Examples include a Teacher, Scout or Guide leader. Enhanced Disclosures are also issued for certain statutory purposes such as gaming and lottery licences.

The copy of disclosure certificate posted to employers will include details of all spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings held on the Police National Computer or state that there are none. In addition, Enhanced Disclosures may also contain:

  • Non-convictional information held by local police forces if deemed relevant by the Chief Police Officer to the position the candidate is applying for or states no such information is present.
  • Data from the relevant ISA barred lists to ensure the individual is not barred from working with children and/or vulnerable adults.

Due to the potentially sensitive nature of the information contained within the disclosure certificate it should only be retained for as long as necessary (the CRB suggest 6 months after a recruitment decision has been made). Know Your Candidate will also produce a supplementary report which can be retained indefinitely which contains:

  • The level of disclosure
  • The date of issue of the certificate
  • The serial number of the certificate
  • The position applied for relevant to the disclosure application
Information required to make the check

An Enhanced Disclosure is made on a CRB application form which Know Your Candidate will send to you along with guidance notes explaining how to complete the form.

In addition, 3 pieces of original documentary evidence confirming the applicant's identity / address must be checked by employers prior to returning the form to Know Your Candidate for processing.
